We’ve had a HUGE response to this event and have reached our max for RSVPs to actually hold and release a monarch. However we still encourage those who want to attend to RSVP at 817-491-6333 or email@example.com with the number of adults and number of children in their group. Though not everyone will be able to physically release a monarch, it will be an awesome sight to see! Plus, there will be the Butterfly Parade, crafts and other fun activities.
Due to the big response, parking will be tight. We recommend you come early or carpool with another friend or family member who is also coming. A great meeting spot for carpooling is Bob Jones Park.
The 2016 Monarch Release will be Saturday, September 24 from 9:00 to 11:00am. We kick off under "The Big Tent" at Bob Jones Nature Center with a brief talk about life cycle & migration. Shortly after, there will be a Butterfly Parade led by Little Music Makers. We invite children (and adults!) to don a pair of wings or even a butterfly costume as we hike the grounds tossing wildflower seed bombs. We do have a cute selection of butterfly wings and masks available for sale at the Nature Center. Along the way, we'll be searching for Monarch caterpillars to be kept and watched for metamorphosis in the near future. The parade will end among the Perennial Gardens with the Release, providing countless photo ops as the butterflies hang out on nearby people and flowers.
There will be other activities & booths set up as well – face painting, butterfly crafts by Arts on the Go, a coffee station and BJNC T-Shirts & MaxFrut bars for sale!
