The Great Backyard Bird CountThe Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC) is organized by the National Audubon Society and the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology and was sponsored locally by the Bob Jones Nature Center And Preserve. The Great Backyard Bird Count is an annual four-day event that creates a real-time snapshot of where the birds are across the continent. It provides people of all ages and levels of experience an opportunity to discover the birds in their backyards, neighborhood or even local parks and “ Count for the Record.” Scientists and bird enthusiasts can learn a lot by knowing where the birds are. No single scientist or team of scientists could hope to document the complex distribution and movements of so many species. We joined thousand of people around the US and Canada in celebrating nature, birds and the sport of birding. Last year Southlake placed 15th in the state for the number of lists submitted! Find out more about the Great Backyard Bird Count. This slideshow is ideal for viewing on your home computer or for showing to an audience in your community explaining how to participate and showing examples of what we've learned from the Great Backyard Bird Count.
